Our national hero

Horses mingle with tricycles in this Laguna town

We hurried to get a glimpse of the famed Majayjay Church or St. Gregory Church before the sun set and  skipping merienda to do that was worth it.

Considered one of the oldest Catholic churches in the Philippines, I leafed through the church's history and lost track of the many times it survived fires, devastation, wars and revolution. That it is still standing is the testament to the people of Majayjay's faith and devotion -- something which was obvious when we entered to  see ladies in their veils listening to the word of God during   the five o'clock mass.

* Reportedly that's how Majayjay got it's name. Americans who went there had a tricky time navigating the roads that they went haaay.. :)
